  • Eagle Rock got its name from a huge boulder overlooking the area – part of which resembles an eagle taking flight.
  • Eagle Rock incorporated in 1911, but its time as an independent city was short; residents approved its annexation by L.A. in 1923.
  • Eagle Rock is home to Occidental College, one of the West Coast’s oldest liberal arts colleges. Its students have included everyone from award-winning filmmakers Terry Gilliam and Ben Affleck to President Barack Obama. Another U.S. President, Ronald Reagan.
