Fun Facts: Beverly Hills, California
- Beverly Hills was once part of the Rancho Rodeo de las Aguas, an area originally called the Gathering of the Waters by local Native American tribes – because of the multiple hillside streams that converged there.
- The city began developing in the early 1900s as an upscale, planned residential community. Movie stars soon flocked to Beverly Hills, moving into new mansions. Elite hotels, ritzy shops, and gourmet restaurants arrived as well, and Beverly Hills became world renowned for its glamour and wealth.
- Beverly Hills’ portion of Route 66, Santa Monica Blvd., passes internationally known celebrity havens (and tourist draws) like Rodeo Drive and the Beverly Hills Hotel.
