40 California Cities

40 California Communities From the Desert to the Sea

California’s Route 66 is a journey from the desert to the sea, stretching through 40 towns, communities, and cities from Needles in the east to Santa Monica in the west. Each one has its own personality, its own stories, and its own special places to stop, explore, photograph, and enjoy. From neon signs and vintage motels to quiet desert stretches and mountain views, every mile has something to offer.

With 314 drivable miles, California has the second longest stretch of Route 66 among the eight states. In the east, much of the road follows historic National Old Trails Highway, where you can still feel the spirit of early travel. In the west, Route 66 travels primarily along Foothill Boulevard and Huntington Drive, winding through communities filled with history, character, and charm before reaching what many consider its most sentimental destination — the end of the Mother Road at the edge of the Pacific.

We invite you along on the journey, please reach out for more info or suggestions to “Get Your Kicks” In our Sun-Kissed State.
