Fun Facts: Los Angeles Westside
- The last stretch of Route 66 in the City of Los Angeles crosses or borders several neighborhoods of L.A.'s Westside region, including Westwood, Century City, West Los Angeles, and Sawtelle. Santa Monica Boulevard carries the historic alignment through areas which grew rapidly with the rise of automobile travel.
- The historic Nuart Theatre, opened in 1930, remains a beloved art-house cinema on this stretch of Route 66. The 1924 Royal Theatre also survives, just a few blocks further west. Long-standing eateries and coffee shops continue the tradition of serving passersby, much as diners once did during the Mother Road era.
- Mid-century apartment blocks and storefronts preserve the scale and feel of Route 66 as it exits Los Angeles' Westside and enters Santa Monica.
