Fun Facts: Highland Park neighborhood, Los Angeles
- In northeast Los Angeles (NELA), Highland Park’s main drag, Figueroa St., was part of two separate Route 66 alignments – from 1932 to 1934 and again from 1936 until 1940. That’s when the Arroyo Seco Parkway, America’s first freeway, opened. That pioneering road became the new local alignment of Route 66.
- Known for its vibrant arts scene dating back to the late 1800s, hip Highland Park offers a variety of shops and locations including a theather. Visitors can also enjoy sights such as restored signs and the westernmost of Route 66’s iconic Muffler Men.
