Facts: San Dimas, California
- San Dimas started as “Mud Springs,” named for the marshy land that made local travel tricky before the railroad arrived in 1887.
- The large San Dimas Hotel, built with the expectation of a land boom following the railroad’s coming, failed and was purchased by the Walker family as their residence.
- Before becoming a city in 1960, San Dimas thrived as a citrus community with four packing houses and even a marmalade factory – sweetening the town’s economy.
- The city has long been known for its small town feel and western art and heritage. For over 50 years, San Dimas has hosted an annual rodeo and Western Days festival.
