  1. Newberry Springs is a 117 square mile unincorporated area of San Bernardino County. We have a population of approximately 4,000.

  2. Our area is probably the only such area in the state of California that features (approx. 5) professional championship ski lakes, plus several other private ski lakes and approx. five jet ski boat lakes. Newberry Springs is truly an area of beautiful lakes.

  3. Newberry Springs has a healthful, dry and clean air climate year round. Our average high temperature in the summer is 100- 110 degrees. In the winter, lows generally get into the 20's, but a dry cold temperature. It is extremely rare that we receive snowfall during the coldest months.

  4. Newberry Springs is an ideal area to live or retire in. We have a modern, large Senior Center with a variety of activities and a cafe open 5 days a week. We also boast a very active American Legion Post.

  5. Newberry Springs offers a variety of churches:
    Newberry Community, Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a Catholic missionary, Newberry Assembly of God and Silver Valley Baptist Church.

  6. Two major interstate freeways (I-40 & I-15) cross Newberry Springs going east, west, north and south.

  7. Famous Route 66 (National Trails Highway), with some original buildings, travels 8 miles through the heart of Newberry Springs.

  8. We have exceptionally affordable housing and property, Lakeside homes and RV spaces are available with special privileges.

  9. Several local mining operations of major importance. Three examples:
    • Rheox: Minerals hectorite or bentonite mined and processed, shipped worldwide, and widely used in the production of paints, printing inks, grease, ceramics, cosmetics (filler for lipstick), pharmaceuticals (including filler for toothpaste, etc.), filter systems, etc., etc. Clay used to line (water-proof) lakes.
    • Western Rock: Mineral andesite or dacite is mined locally south of I-40 in Newberry Springs, transported by conveyor belt under I-40 and stored (most unique). Used for railroad beds, highways, parking lots, decorative, etc.
    • Fort Cady Minerals: Now in the process of going through the county planning department to mine boron near Hector.



  10. Agricultural Points of Interest: Alfalfa, apricots, pistachios, ostrich, chicken, turkey, duck, rabbit, buffalo (bison), beef, dairy, catfish, tropical koi fish, etc.

  11. Newberry Springs is near known fossil, Indian artifacts, rock hunting sites.
  12. Low crime rate: Neighborhood Watch Program and Citizens On Patrol.
  13. Near (20 miles) from So. California first Veterans' Home Facility (400 bed). Projected completion: 1995

  14. Two desert and mountain scenic wilderness areas... an easy approximately one hour drive.

  15. Schools: Ironwood Christian Academy (private), Mojave School (private), Newberry Elementary, Daggett Middle, and Silver Valley and Calico High Schools, Barstow Community College (20 miles).

  16. Medical facilities: hospital, nursing homes, doctors, specialists an easy twenty-two mile freeway drive to Barstow.

  17. Fishing? Great many local private lakes, Big Bear, Silverwood, Mojave Narrows, Hesperia, etc. approximately one hour freeway drive. Famous Colorado River, 2 1/2 hour freeway drive.

  18. Gun Sports: Yes, Silver Valley Gun Club.

  19. Gambling and big entertainment shows: Nevada State Line (1 1/2 hours on I-15), Las Vegas (2 hours on I-15), Laughlin (2 1/2 hours on I-40).

  20. Bingo, yes. Newberry Springs Senior Center. In Barstow: American Legion, Knights of Columbus, etc.
